Burke, Dhillon, Miletic nominated for awards; Bowling scores; Summer hockey registration

Three members of the Niagara IceDogs have been announced as finalists for seven of the league’s major awards for the 2017-18 Ontario Hockey League regular season.
Sam Miletic is in the running for the Overage Player of the Year/Leo Lalonde Memorial Trophy along with Justin Fazio (Sarnia Sting), Jeremy Helvig (Kingston Frontenacs), Aaron Luchuk (Barrie Colts), Garrett McFadden (Guelph Storm) and Hayden Verbeek (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds).
After being acquired by the IceDogs at the overage player trade deadline Miletic’s offensive game continued at a rampant pace. He collected 38 points in 28 regular season games, average 1.35 points per game. His 36 goals and 92 points led the team while his veteran presence on and off the ice helped the IceDogs secure fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

Marie Greyhounds), Stan Butler (North Bay Battalion), John Gruden (Hamilton Bulldogs), Derian Hatcher (Sarnia Sting), Dale Hawerchuk (Barrie Colts) and Trevor Letowski (Windsor Spitfires).
After serving as an assistant coach for eight seasons, Burke was promoted to head coach to start this season and led his team to a 35-23-7-3 record and 80 points, their best season record since the 2011-2012 season.
Stephen Dhillon was nominated for the goaltender of the year award along with Michael DiPietro (Windsor Spitfires), Justin Fazio (Sarnia Sting), Jeremy Helvig (Kingston Frontenacs), Kyle Keyser (Oshawa Generals) and Matthew Villalta (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds)
In his fourth season and second as a starting goaltender, Dhillon had another stellar season between the pipes. In 52 games played he posted a career-best season record of 28-16-4-3 along with a goals-against-average of 3.34 and a .899 save percentage.
The 2018 OHL Awards Ceremony takes place on Wednesday, June 6 at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. Award recipients will be announced periodically throughout the remainder of the 2018 OHL Playoffs. Additional player awards to be announced include Humanitarian of the Year, Academic Players of the Year, and the 2017-18 Mickey Renaud Captain’s Trophy recipient.

Summer hockey
Play begins in late May in the St. Catharines Summer Minor Hockey League 2018 season. The league is currently registering for 5-on-5 and 3-on-3 hockey. The league provides a 12-game season with games at the Seymour Hannah Centre in prime time on consistent weeknights.
