April 24 sports: Gymnastics Energy, high school badminton; JUEL prep basketball; summer hockey registration
Gymnastics Energy members Ben Tschakovsky and Elliott Speck have qualified to be part of Team Ontario for the Eastern Canadian championships following their performances at the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) Ontario Championships in Amherstburg.
Competing in Level 5 age 13-15, Tschakovsky of Grimsby was fifth overall, second on high bar, fourth on floor, fourth on parallel bars, sixth on rings and vault and seventh on pommel horse.
Also competing in Level 5 age 13-15, Speck of St. Catharines was eighth overall, third on floor, fourth on rings, sixth on parallel bars, seventh on vault and eighth on pommel horse and high bar.
Below are other top 10 results from Gymnastics Energy members:
LEVEL 3
Isaac Speck of St. Catharines (Age 13-17): sixth overall, second on pommel horse; eighth on vault and high bar, ninth on floor; and 10th on parallel bars. Isaac is also an alternate for Eastern Championships.
Carter Pfeffer of Fonthill (Age 10-12): 10th overall, third on pommel horse, fourth on rings and seventh on vault.
Will McNevin of Fonthill (Age 10-12): second on vault, and fifth on floor and parallel bars.
Will Rigby of St. Catharines (Age 10-12): seventh on rings and 10th on floor.
LEVEL 2
Branko Dzalto of St. Catharines (Age 8-9): third on vault and sixth on pommel horse.
LEVEL 1:
Simeon King of St. Catharines (Age 8): fifth overall, second on pommel horse, fifth on high bar, seventh on vault, ninth on rings and 10th on parallel bars.
Zhane Hedden of St. Catharines (Age 9): ninth on vault.
ZONE 4 MIDGET BADMINTON
Following are Zone 4 midget badminton results from a tournament hosted on April 23 by Great Lakes Christian High School.
The top two in each event move onto the Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association tournament next week at Delta High School in Hamilton.

JUEL PREP GOES 2-2
The Niagara JUEL Prep girls basketball team went 2-2 in its recent games, defeating GTA West 85-70, losing 61-59 to Scarborough, beating GTA West 58-55 and losing 64-45 to Sudbury.
In the 85-70 win over GTA West, Ally Sentance led the way with 23 points, 17 rebounds and 11 steals. Also contributing to the win were: Maddie O’Brien, 11 rebounds and five assists; Maddie Caughill, five points and five rebounds; Sydney Grummett, five points and nine rebounds; Tess Puchalski, 10 points, four steals and four assists; Molly Taylor, 14 points and eight rebounds; Emily Campbell, eight points and four rebounds; and, Allison Addy, 12 points and six steals.
Sentance again led the way versus Scarborough with 26 points, five rebounds, seven steals and five assists. Other leading performers were: O’Brien, four points; Caughill, five points; Grummett, four points and eight rebounds; Puchalski, six points and five steals; Taylor, six points and seven rebounds; and Addy, four steals.
In the 58-55 victory over GTA West, Sentance came within one assist of a quadruple double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, 12 steals and nine assists. Other top performers were: O’Brien, 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists; Caughill, four points and six rebounds; Grummett, nine rebounds and four steals; Puchalski, 10 points; and, Addy, four points and four rebounds.
Grummett led the way against Sudbury with a triple double consisting of 10 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals. Other leaders on the stats sheet were: Sentance, six rebounds; O’Brien, eight points and seven rebounds; Eliana Mariella and Puchalski, four points; Campbell, seven points, including 5-5 from the free-throw line; and, Addy, seven points.
Niagara is in London this weekend for league play.
SPRING/SUMMER HOCKEY REGISTRATION
The St. Catharines and Niagara Summer Minor Hockey League has space open in some divisions for the 2018 season. The league provides a 12-game season beginning in late May with games at the Seymour Hannah Centre in prime time and on consistent week nights.
This is a non-contact recreational league open to boys and girls aged 5-15 with divisions for all age levels. The league registers individuals only (no team entries) in order to ensure reasonable parity. Registration can be completed at scsummerhockey.com, by calling the league at 905-246-7819.
