A’s one win from advancing
The St. Catharines Athletics are in the driver’s seat.
The A’s topped the Six Nations Arrows 9-2 to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-three Ontario Lacrosse Association junior A playoff series.
The A’s can advance to the semifinals with a win in Game 3 at home Sunday at Jack Gatecliff Arena at 7 p.m. Game 4, if necessary, is Monday at Six Nations.
“I was really proud how the boys played. They worked hard for a full 60 minutes,” A’s general manager Jeff Chcoski said.
“This series is still a long ways from being over. They’re not going to roll over and give up and I know from experience the third game is the hardest one to get. I know the guys are excited to get a couple days off and rest the bodies get ready to get down to to business Sunday night.”
The A’s jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one period, then padded the lead to 7-2 after two.
Alex Simmons paced the A’s with three goals while Carter Zavitz added a pair. Brett Erskine and Rylee St. Onge also scored.
Jake Rosa and Kevin Owen Hill replied for the Arrows.
Nick Damude had another solid game in net for the A’s with 51 saves.
