Oct. 15 sports report: Myer football; Generals football: OFSAA golf; Thorold Badminton Club; Stamford basketball reunion
Jeremiah Nyambia scored on touchdown runs of one, five and 20 yards, and returned a kick 75 yards for another major to power the A.N. Myer Marauders (4-0) to a 71-0 victory over the Grimsby Eagles in Niagara Region High School Athletic Association Tier 1 senior football action.
Also contributing to the Myer win were: Ryan James, TD passes to Trent Hunter (45 yards), Jay Patel (20 yards) and Dallas Bone (35 yards); Bone, rouge and all the converts; Jordan Gilbert, three-yard TD run; Mateo Corritore, one-yard TD run; Lathan Noonan-Berry, 20-yard interception return for a TD; Jacob Moody, two fumble recoveries; and, Chris Bechkos, Brodie O’Toole and Jorge Rodriquez, interceptions.
OFSAA GIRLS GOLF
Centennial’s Kayla Burke fired rounds of 80 and 78 to place 11th in the open division at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations girls golf championship at the Ambassador Golf Club in Windsor.
Dunnville’s Sasha Baker placed 39th with a score of 91-98-189.
In the high school division: Grimsby’s Sarah Zingano (94-113) was 41st; Greater Fort Erie’s Bailey Jacobs (101-111) was 44th; and, Notre Dame’s Sierra Gaspari (107-112) was 49th.
OFSAA BOYS GOLF
A.N. Myer’s Ben MacLean carded rounds of 77 and 76 at the Royal Ashburn Golf in Whitby to tie for 13th in the open division at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations boys golf championship.
Also in the open division, Myer’s Nolan Piazza (80-74) tied for 21st and E.L. Crossley’s Luke DelGobbo (78-77) tied for 28th.
In the high school boys division, Blessed Trinity’s Jackson Strecker (81-84) was 18th and Myer’s Marco Primerano (89-92) was 40th.
GENERALS FOOTBALL
Niagara Generals travel football teams went 2-2 in action last weekend.
The atoms defeated the Waterloo Predators 58-6, the peewees beat the Vaughan Rebels 18-8, the Tier 1 bantams fell 42-7 to the Hamilton Junior Tiger-Cats and the Tier 2 bantams lost 48-6 to the Brantford Bisons
GENERALS 58 PREDATORS 6
Ezekiel Langendoen scored five TDs and added three converts to lead the Niagara Generals atoms to a 58-6 romp over the Waterloo Predators.
Also scoring for the Generals were: Ethan Tice, TD; Carter Smith and Benjamin Kolodziejczak, TD and two-point convert; Jak Buckland, two-point convert; and, Spencer MacRae, convert.
The Generals win included: big runs by Buckland and Cameron; big plays by Grant Hudson and Smith (punt return TD); and, multiple tackles by Spencer MacRae and Nick MacKinnon.
GENERALS 18 REBELS 8
Touchdowns by Cameron MacRae, Braiden Genest and Jake Portolesi powered the Niagara Generals peewee football team to a 18-8 triumph over the Vaughan Rebels.
“Our team came together great. I am so proud of them all,” Niagara head coach Bruce MacRae said. “William Gibson got through into the back field in more than one situation, causing a fumble, and our O-line really came out to play, opening all the holes we needed.
“Bring on the playoffs. My boys are ready.”
JUNIOR TIGER CATS 41 GENERALS 7
Nick Longo caught a TD pass from Jackson Stewart as the Niagara Generals bantam Tier 1 football squad fell 41-7 to the Hamilton Junior Tiger-Cats.
Ryan Broome added a convert for Niagara.
BISONS 48 GENERALS 6
Mason Smith scored his first career touchdown as a Niagara General, but it wasn’t enough as the Niagara Generals bantam Tier 2 team fell 48-6 to the Brantford Bisons.
THOROLD BADMINTON CLUB
The Thorold Badminton Club is looking for players for the 2018-19 season.
The club plays every Monday and Friday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Richmond Street School in Thorold.

Stamford is hosting an alumni basketball reunion which will include the unveiling of a memorial and tribute to the late legendary coach Bob Coull.
