Justin Savoie scored two rushing touchdowns to power the Niagara Generals bantam football team to a 33-0 victory over the Vaughan Rebels in the Ontario Football League championship game last Saturday evening.
“Our team peaked at the right time of year. We couldn’t be prouder as a coaching staff in the heart our entire team showed,” interim head coach Dan Steele said. “When the playoffs started, no one was really giving us a chance and our boys responded very well to the underdog role.
“We talked all playoffs about it’s not how you start it’s how you finish and last night (Saturday) was an amazing finish to our Generals season.”
Also contributing to the victory were: Nick Longo, TD pass from Jackson Stewart and two-point convert on reception; Stewart, rushing major; Jack Wilson, rushing TD; Ryan Broome, kicked convert and fumble recovery; Quinn Johnston and Lucas Hazelton, interceptions.
Stewart and Justin Savoie were chosen as the Generals’ MVPs on offence while award winners on defence were Wyatt Bezuyen, Aiden Dubcek and Johnston.
“The boys played an amazing game on both sides of the ball,” head coach Greg Beilby said. “The D barely bent and the O moved the ball at will.”
