Nov. 26 junior hockey report: IceDogs split: Canucks, Junior Canadians, Blackhawks win
ICEDOGS SPLIT
The Niagara IceDogs split a pair of weekend Ontario Hockey League games, defeating the Barrie Colts 6-2 on Friday night and falling 5-2 to the Hamilton Bulldogs Saturday.
Scoring for Niagara in the win were: Kirill Maksimov, two goals; Jason Robertson, three helpers; Akil Thomas, Philip Tomasino and Kyen Sopa, goal and assist; Drew Hunter, two setups; and, a single score by Johnathon Schaefer.
Jacob Tortora and Aidan Brown replied for Barrie, which trailed 5-0 in the first period and 6-0 in the second. Stephen Dhillon made 24 saves to pick up the win in goal.
Robertson and Andrew Bruder scored for Niagara in the loss to Hamilton. Robertson sits in fourth place in league scoring with 42 points.
The Bulldogs were paced by Grimsby native Brandon Saigeon who scored once and added two assists. Mackenzie Entwistle scored twice for Hamilton and single were netted by Matthew Strome and Arthur Kaliyev.
Niagara is tied for second place with Mississauga in the OHL’s Central Division with a record of 13-7-4-0.
Next up for Niagara is a Thursday home game Thursday versus the Owen Sound Attack.
JUNIOR B
BLACKHAWKS 3 PANTHERS 1
Blair Jenkins and Owen Allan each had a goal and an assist to lead the Thorold Blackhawks to a 3-1 victory over the Pelham Panthers in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Conference play Sunday.
Brendan Charlton also scored for Thorold while Thomas Young replied for Pelham. Chase Grsic made 25 saves to pick up the win in goal.
Fifth-place Thorold improved to 9-11-1-0 while fourth-place Pelham fell to 13-10-0-1.
Thorold hosts Welland Thursday at 7:07 p.m.
JUNIOR CANADIANS 7 REGALS 2
Chase Johnson scored a hat trick to power the Welland Junior Canadians (6-15-0-1) to a 7-2 win Sunday over the Lockport Regals (3-17-0-1) in GOJHL action.
Philippe Angervil, Cody Wall, Matt Baumann and Martin Nowysz also scored for Welland while A.J. Marinelli potted a pair of goals for Lockport.
METEORS 4 KILTY B’S 2
A hat trick by Evan Miller sparked the Fort Erie Meteors to a 4-2 doubling of the Hamilton Kilty Bs Saturday night in GOJHL action.
Brady Lee added a goal for the seventh-place Meteors (6-16-0-1). Scoring for third-place Hamilton (14-7-0-1) were Marino Moro and T.J. Hughes.
CANUCKS 6 REGALS 2
The league-leading Niagara Falls Canucks improved to 20-2-0-1 in GOJHL play Saturday night with a 6-2 tripling of the Lockport Regals.
Scoring goals for the Canucks were Justin Kyle (2), Patrick McCabe, Andrew Bruno and Garrett Downie. Tim Lopez and Luke MacLeod replied for Lockport.
