CUDNEY AWARD RETURNS
A venerable Welland sports award is making a comeback.
The H.L. Cudney Memorial Award, first presented in 1962 and annually thereafter until 2015, is being brought out of ‘retirement’.
The award, presented for outstanding achievement or contribution to sports in Welland, will be among the array of hardware distributed at the Welland Sports Promotion Committee awards dinner, Friday, April 5, 2019.
“We didn’t want this prestigious award to remain dormant,” said Ron Lemon, the 2010 recipient of the award. “A committee was formed to bring it back into circulation in the Welland sports community.”
The Cudney Award Committee is now a sub-committee of the Welland Sports Promotion Committee, an umbrella group.
Nominations for the H. L. Cudney Memorial Award are now being accepted. Nomination forms are available at: Welland Community Wellness Complex, 145 Lincoln St., or from members of the committee. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, January 25, 2019.
Members of the award committee are: Wayne Jaroslawski, Wayne Harris, Don Larman, Todd Cooney, Ron Harpwood, Murray Mulligan, Joe Barkovich and Lemon.
