PASSING THE TORCH
This Saturday’s Canada Games Closing ceremonies in Red Deer, Alta., to be shown live on TSN2 at 9 p.m., will see the Canada Games Torch officially handed over to the 2021 Canada Games Host Society.

The 2021 Canada Games are set to take place in Niagara from Aug. 6 to Aug. 22 at venues across all 12 municipalities in Niagara.
MARAUDERS ELIMINATED
The hopes of the A.N. Myer Marauders senior boys basketball team to qualify for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations’ AAA championships ended Thursday with a 64-54 loss to Orchard Park.
Myer opened the Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association championships with an 84-39 loss to powerhouse Saltfleet, but got a chance to challenge Orchard Park for a spot at OFSAA because SOSSA had two berths.
Myer advanced to SOSSA by defeating Notre Dame in the overall Zone 3 final.
Scoring for Myer against Orchard Park were Cormac McMahon (20), Nick Murdaca (19), Matt Garrett (7), Adam Lamb (4), Jorge Rodriquez (2) and Noah Sharp (2).
Orchard Park was led by Aleksa Milisic with 29 and Milos Milisic with 10.
GOLDEN EAGLES REPEAT
The Thorold Golden Eagles junior boys basketball team defended its Niagara Region High School Athletic Association Zone 4 A title with a 77-33 win over Great Lakes Christian College.

Scoring for Thorold were Lucas Switzer (22), Connor Schuman (18), Krish Walia (14), Mason Cooper (8), Blayden Burrows (8), Chris Cameron (4), Jeff Kim (3) and Dapo Babajide (2).
Thorold advanced to the final by defeating a pesky Laura Secord Patriots squad 64-40 in semifinal play. Secord hung tough for two quarters before Thorold’s pressure finally wore them down.
Scoring for Thorold were Switzer (10), Burrows (10), Kim (10), Matt Wing (7), Schuman (6), Babjide (5), Riley Burt (4), Adnan Awan (4), Cooper (4), Walia (2) and Nolan Brookes (2).
