St. Catharines mines 12 Henley golds
St. Catharines’ Dylan Vanderloos placed third in the men’s senior 64-kilogram single Henley final Sunday.
The St. Catharines Rowing Club capped an excellent week of racing by winning five gold medals Sunday at the 137th Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.
The club finished the week with a regatta-high 12 medals to finish fourth in the Efficiency Trophy standings. The University of British Columbia captured the Efficiency Trophy followed by Conshocken Rowing Centre and the Vesper Boat Club.
Vesper, Riverside and the U.S. Paralympic Rowing Team all tied for second in the medal race with five golds each.
St. Catharines crews winning Henley gold Sunday were the: men’s under-19 eight (Evan MacRae, Nikolas Schramm, David Picard, David Law, Kai Bartel, Max Caruso, Christian McAlpine, Andrew Barry and Nicholas Murray-Coplen); men’s lightweight eight (Eric Buchanan, Brad Iafrate, Noah Van Helvert, Owen Voelkner, Ryan Walter, Johan May, Jacob Martens, Jacob Giesbrecht and Autumn Bland); men’s under-23 lightweight pair (Johan May and Jacob Martens); women’s senior 52-kilogram cox four (Kasaundra Pariak, Marissa Hagopian, Emma Parkin, Olivia Burgess and Georgia Greenwood); and, women’s senior lightweight eight (Jordan Isnor, Alicia Piazza, Kaitlyn Dennis, Margaret Gralewicz, Andrea Jansen, Erin Corkery, Carly Zanatta, Jennifer Beaudette and Brooke Kew).
The only local boat to finish second was St. Catharines’ women’s under-23 lightweight four (Olivia Jose, Serena Weaver, Madeline Hingston and Alicia Piazza).
Local boats that placed third Sunday were: St. Catharines’ Dylan Vanderloos in the men’s senior 64-kilogram single; St. Catharines’ men’s under-17 cox four (Owen Kudreikis, George Martinson, Giancarlo Dipompeo, Liam Benner and Nathan Vandervaart); and the St. Catharines’ women’s senior lightweight quad (Kaitlyn Dennis, Jennifer Beaudette, Erin Corkery and Carly Zanatta).
Following are the results of all the other Niagara boats which made Henley finals Sunday.
Women’s under-19 quad: 4. St. Catharines (Rebecca Dockray, Alexandra Wiley, Isabel Frolick and Madison Thomas).
Men’s senior lightweight quad: 6. Niagara Falls (Adam Pozzobon, Ashton Corr, Antonio DiDomenico and James Sisley).
Men’s under-19 quad: 5. St. Catharines (Benjamin Niemi, Cameron Burgess, Jared Boles and Keithan Woodhouse).
Men’s under-23 four: 6. St. Catharines (David Campbell, Benjamin Friesen, Erik Hohnstein and Brandan Andrews).
