Hats off to Edwardson
Carson Edwardson continues to hold the hot hand.
The veteran centre collected his second hat-trick in as many games as the St. Catharines Falcons defeated the Thorold Blackhawks 6-1 in a Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Conference game Thursday night in Thorold.
Edwardson, who also chipped in with two assists, now has 11 goals and 17 points in 10 games this season.
Andrew Somerville added a goal and three assists while Noah Solinger and Bryce Robertson also scored.
Cam Lightfoot scored the lone goal for the Hawks.
The Falcons improved to 5-4-1 while the Blackhawks dropped to 3-5-1.
“I thought it was a solid team effort from the goaltender up,” Falcons coach Tyler Bielby said. “We played the more disciplined game and made them pay for it on the power play.”
Blair Coffin turned back 13 of 14 shots to earn the win.
Noah Fortuna made 25 saves on 30 shots in goal for Thorold while Chase Grsic kicked out 10 of 11 shots.
The Falcons are home to Buffalo Friday.
“We cannot be satisfied,” Bielby said. “We must continue to get better every night We have enjoyed a few wins in a row but ow it’s time to prepare for Buffalo.
“If we stick to our game plan and continue to play for the guy next to us, we will continue to have success.”
The Hawks visit Fort Erie Saturday.
