Weekend Golden Horseshoe roundup
Noah Fortuna kicked out 31 shots to lead the Thorold Blackhawks past the Welland Junior Canadians 5-2 in a Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Conference game Sunday night in Welland.
Trevor Neumann, Dylan Scriver, Dylan Latty, Sam VanderZalm and Mitch Britton scored for Thorold. Brett Bressette and Blair Jenkins had two assists each.
Matt Baumann and Josh Di Francesco replied for the Junior Canadians.
Nicholas Kidd made 38 saves in goal for Welland.
Canucks 2 Panthers 1 OT
Max Lightfoot scored four minutes into overtime to give the visiting Niagara Falls Canucks a 2-1 victory at Pelham Sunday afternoon.
Justin Schneider gave the Falls a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal in the first. Pelham tied the game early in the third when Devin Sanders scored.
Jack Brand made 30 saves in net for the win.
Nick McGowan made 43 saves for the Panthers.
Corvairs 6 Meteors 3
Ryan Wells collected two goals and two assists as the Caledonia Corvairs topped the visiting Fort Erie Meteors 6-3 Sunday night.
Joel Mazzilli, Matthew Bridgwater, Nick McHugh and Dylan D’Agostino added singles for the winners.
Aidan Hughes picked up the win with 23 saves.
Philip DeCresce, Marco Lariccia and Cail Cirillo replied for Fort Erie.
Dalton McBride made 35 saves in goal for the Mets.
Saturday at home, McBride made 26 saves for the shutout as the Meteors earned their second with of the season with a 4-0 victory over the Buffalo Regals.
Lariccia, Paul Cartone, Nico Paone and Anthony Gigliotti scored.
