IceDogs add goaltender
The Niagara IceDogs added some depth in net Wednesday, completing a trade with the Oshawa Generals for goaltender Andrew MacLean.
To acquire MacLean, the IceDogs traded a fifth round pick in the 2022 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection to the Generals.
MacLean is a native of Port Huron, MI who was drafted in the 10th round of the 2017 OHL draft by the Owen Sound Attack. A 2001 birth year, MacLean played 32 games in his first year with the Attack. He was acquired over the summer by the Generals In 19 games thus far this season, MacLean has posted a 3.65 goals against average and .877 save percentage. He is 11-5-1-1 in the 2019-20 season.
The move gives the IceDogs some protection in goal with rookie Tucker Tynan likely gone for the season with a leg injury.
“With the unfortunate injury to Tucker, it left us in a position of need,” IceDogs coach Billy Burke said. “Andrew has proved he can be a starting goalie in this league and that is exactly why we are so excited to be bringing him to help with our playoff push.”
The IceDogs are home to Hamilton Thursday.
