Corvairs advance, Kilty B’s top Hawks
The Caledonia Corvairs did the expected and finished off the Buffalo Regals in four straight games.
The Corvairs completed the sweep of their Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Conference best-of-seven series with an 8-2 win in Buffalo Monday.
The Corvairs jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one and increased the margin to 7-2 after 40 minutes.
Danyk Drouin paced Caledonia with three goals while Matthew Bridgwater added a pair. Joel Mazzilli, Noah Caperchione and Michael Barker also scored.
Todd Smith and Ryan Messing replied for the Regals.
Aidan Hughes picked up the win in goal facing 26 shots.
Kilty B’s 4 Hawks 1
The Hamilton Kilty B’s took a 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven series with the Thorold Blackhawks following a 4-1 win on home ice Monday.
Hamilton struck for a pair of goals in the first period by Steven LaForme and Jordan Van Hunnik. Noah Slachetka made it 3-0 in the second before the Hawks got on the board with a goal from Joel Chauvin.
Slachetka rounded out the scoring with his second of the game into an empty net late in the third.
Chase Grsic got the start in goal for the Hawks but was pulled after permitting two goals on six shots. Noah Fortuna finished up and turned back 30 of 31 shots.
Justin Easter made 35 saves for the win.
Game 4 is Wednesday in Thorold at 7:30 p.m. Game 5, if necessary, is back in Hamilton Thursday.
Tuesday the Pelham Panthers visit the St. Catharines Falcons. St. Catharines leads the series 2-0. The Fort Erie Meteors are in Niagara Falls with the Canucks up 2-0.
