Weekend junior B roundup: Meteors edge Corvairs
The Fort Erie Meteors ended a four-game losing streak and five-year winless run versus the Caledonia Corvairs with a 3-2 overtime win Saturday night in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Leisureplex.
The Meteors were 0-13-1 in their last 14 against the Corvairs.
“Feels good to finally pay our goaltending off with a good performance,” Fort Erie coach Nik Passero said. “Closest thing to 60-plus minutes we have played all season. Nice to see our depth guys score this weekend and get us off our skid.
“Next thing we need to focus on is our consistency and I think we’ll be alright.”
Antonio Pugliese, with his second of the game and 15th of the season at the 5:34 mark, gave the Mets the win.
Owen Kelley also scored for the Meteors.
Alec Brown and Mitchell Ferras replied for the Corvairs.
Duncan Nichols-Delay made 37 saves for the win.
Ethan Langevin turned back 27 shots in goal for the Corvairs.
Former Meteor Jayden Baldinelli has returned to Fort Erie after a stint with Cobourg of the Ontario Junior Hockey League.
Kilty B’s 5 Panthers 2
The Kilty B’s won their eighth straight game and improved to 15-1 overall with a win at Pelham Sunday afternoon.
Following a scoreless first period, Nolan Underwood had two goals and Sam Shakes one for the Kilty B’s in the second period while Tyler Toomey and Jordan Tutt replied for the Panthers.
Colin MacDougall and Liam Galton, into an empty net, added singles for Hamilton in the third period.
Braedyn McIntosh made 28 saves in goal for the win.
Brayden Kelson turned back 32 shots for Pelham.
Blackhawks 6 Junior Canadians 5 OT
Aydar Suniev’s second goal of the game six minutes into overtime gave the visiting Thorold Blackhawks 6-5 win at Welland Sunda.
Sam Tonelli added two goals while Liam Loftus and Rian Meisner also scored.
Noah Fortuna made 36 saves in net for the win.
Ari Alakorpi, Brady Afelskie, Zach Kent, Kai Skilbeck and Nathan Duplessis replied for the Junior Canadians.
Keegan Jackson made 44 saves in a losing effort.
