Weekend junior B roundup: Stingy Falcons top Panthers
The St. Catharines Falcons broke open a close game with three goals in the third period to defeat the Pelham Panthers 5-1 in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Conference action Sunday afternoon at Pelham.
Nicholas Rubino, Joe Colasurdo, Jordan Schanbacher, Kyle Glenney and Logan O’Flannagan scored for the Falcons.
“Nice to add another two points in the standings,” Falcons coach Tyler Bielby said. “We were really happy with the play of Matthew Stranges, Trent Glenney, and Logan O’Flannagan. They played as a line and put together a solid 60 minutes for us. We have been talking a lot about playing determined and with purpose and we felt they did exactly that. They seemed to be our pulse and the boys fed off it as the game went on.”
Luca Marandola replied for the Panthers.
Josh Johnson made 23 saves in net for the Falcons.
The Falcons, 17-4-0-2, lead the GOJHL in goals against with only 39 goals permitted, an average of 1.70 per game.
“Also felt our blueline protected the fort tonight,” Bielby said. “Josh Reilly and Jordan Schanbacher, in particular, were really good.”
