The Fort Erie Meteors rebounded from a difficult weekend to defeat the Niagara Falls Canucks 5-2 in a Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Conference game Tuesday night at the Leisureplex.
The Meteors, who had been on a five-game winning streak, dropped a pair of games to the Welland Junior Canadians Saturday and Sunday.
“It was not a good weekend for us and we really challenged our group and our leadership and they put it on the line tonight,” Meteors coach/general manager Nik Passero said. “We played like men and got the job done. Even though we’re a little banged up we still came with some aggression and I loved our group tonight.”
Fort Erie took a 1-0 lead after the first period on a goal from Thomas Gualtieri.
Riley Noble and Joshua DiFrancesco increased the Meteors lead to 3-0 after two. DiFrancesco’s second early in the third made it 4-0 before Aidan Leblanc and Matthew Riva cut the lead in half. Brendan Krawczyk then scored into an empty net for Fort Erie to conclude the scoring.
Duncan Nichols-Delay made 26 saves for the win.
