The Niagara IceDogs brief, two-game winning streak came to an end with an 8-2 loss to the Oshawa Generals in Ontario Hockey League action Monday afternoon in Oshawa.
The IceDogs, who Sunday afternoon rallied to defeat the Sudbury Wolves 5-3 at home, appeared spent while the Generals were off Sunday.
Oshawa took a 1-0 lead in the first when Calum Richie netted his 16th of the season late in the period. The Gens held an 11-9 edge in shots.
Oshawa took over in the second period scoring four straight goals by Ty Tullio, Matthew Hill, Brett Harrison and former IceDog Leyton Moore. Two of the goals came on a five-minute power play after Niagara forward Brice Cooke was assessed a major penalty for a head check. Cooke was also ejected from the game. Dylan Roobroeck got Niagara on the board late in the period with his sixth of the season before Matthew Buckley scored for Oshawa to conclude the scoring in the second.
Harrison and Stuart Rolofs added to Oshawa’s lead in the third while Danil Gushchin netted his 29th of the season for the IceDogs to extend his points streak to 15 games.
The Generals outshot the IceDogs 47-21 and went 4-for-8 with the man advantage.
The IceDogs are home to North Bay Thursday and Hamilton Sunday afternoon.
