The St. Catharines Falcons lost for just the second time in nine games, dropping a 5-4 decision to the Niagara Falls Canucks in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League action Sunday afternoon at the Gale Centre.
Matthew Riva’s 32nd goal of the season at the 7:53 mark of the third period broke a 4-4 deadlock.
“A loss that we will put behind us and focus on the week ahead,” Falcons coach Tyler Bielby said. “We created enough looks, but we were sloppy from time to time and they capitalized on their chances. Credit to them for making the most of their opportunities.”
Owen Goodbrand collected three goals for the Canucks while Jake McKinstray also scored. Robbie Nelson chipped in with four assists.
Stephen Giansante made 34 saves in net for the win.
Kyle Glenney, Sam Williamson, Chris Reid and Mitchell Armstrong replied for the Falcons.

The Falcons wrap up the regular season this weekend, including Friday at home versus the Fort Erie Meteors.
“We are looking forward to another hard week of practice and finishing the season off with three games in three nights,” Bielby said.
