Niagara Juel and Juel Prep award winners
Hannah Bourdon was named a Juel Second Team All-Star and was chosen for the senior Juel all-star game.
Members of the Niagara Juel and Juel Prep basketball teams brought home a basketful of year-end honours.
Hannah Bourdon, a graduating student at Greater Fort Erie Secondary School, was selected to play in the senior Juel all-star game, Sir Winston Churchill’s Yemi Oladipo and Brookelyn Keltos were chosen for the junior game and E.L. Crossley’s Izzy Brenzil was picked for the sophomore game. In addition, Bourdon was named a Second Team All-Star.
Jenna Saddler from the Niagara Juel Prep team was named the recipient of the JUEL League MacKenzie Curran Inspiration Award. Saddler is a student at A.N, Myer Secondary School. The award is given to a Juel or Juel Prep athlete who, through her actions in the face of adversity, inspires her teammates and/or community to achieve more than they thought possible.
Eden student Anna Deliyannis from the Niagara Juel Prep team was named the winner of the Juel Prep Athletica Elite Community Service Award. It is given to a player who has gone above and beyond in their community. The presenters look for any positive work that has made a difference and it can be in any forum, not specific to basketball or sport.
“Anna stood out amongst the athletes for her community service work during the various phases of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the league said in a release. “Anna volunteered at a supportive housing organization which included one-on-one visits with the elderly. During our basketball program, Anna went above and beyond volunteering for our house league always signing up for additional hours and being a positive role model for young athletes.”
Earning Juel Prep All Academic Awards were: Maia Walker who had a 96.5 per cent average at A.N. Myer; Maya Kolbinson who recorded a 96.5 per cent average at Port Colborne; and, Brenzil who notched a 97.25 per cent average at Crossley.
Niagara players winning All Academic Awards at the Juel level were Kaitlyn Brophy, who had a 98 per cent average at Crossley and Oladipo, who had a 96.25 per cent average at Churchill.
All Academic Awards honour athletes who have balanced academics and sport during the season.
