PELHAM WINS C LACROSSE CROWN
There were a lot of questions at the start of the season about how good of a team the Pelham Raiders under-11 boys lacrosse team might become.
With a roster that included three players new to the sport of lacrosse, the squad exceeded all expectations by defeating the Hamilton Bengals 7-3 in Whitby to capture the Under-11 C Division provincial championship.
The Raiders dropped an 8-6 decision in round-robin play to Owen Sound but hit their stride in the final few games, outscoring the opposition 40-22 along the way.
The coaches thank all the players and parents for a great season and singled out the contributions of Michelle Mackellar, Cass Doxtator, Matt Pattison, Tom Napper, and Peter Lacey for preparing the kids to play their best at provincials. Special mentions go out to team manager Bill Crumm and goaltender Kenny Lazore.
Offensively, the Raiders were lead by Madoxx Georgiev, Austin Davidson, Matty Milton, Pierce Hutchinson, Liam Crumm, Finn Hodges, Sawyer Fox, Nixon Napper and Charlie Roach. Sparking the defence were Crumm, Barrick Lacey, Garett Vukovic, Quentin Doxtator, Anderson Doan, Travis John, and Logan Stewart.
The coaching staff also thanks Mark Georgiev for stepping in and helping coach on the bench in the final three games.
