The Niagara IceDogs wrapped up a three game in three night road trip with a 5-2 loss to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday at the GFL Memorial Gardens.
The IceDogs began the trip with a 9-3 loss at North Bay Thursday before rebounding with a 5-4 overtime win at Sudbury Friday.
“We had a chance to win that game, but our mistakes bit us,” IceDogs coach Daniel Fitzgerald said. “In the end, we can’t use fatigue as an excuse. We are capable of winning that game if we do more of the little things consistently.”
Each team scored once in each of the first two periods before the Greyhounds broke the tie with three goals in the third period.
Andrew Gibson, Mark Duarte, Alex Kostev, Marco Mignosa and Tyler Savard scored for the Greyhounds.
Brenden Sirizzotti and Aidan Castle scored for the IceDogs.
The Greyhounds outshot the IceDogs 38-22.
Owen Flores took the loss in goal for Niagara.
The IceDogs, 4-8-3, are at Kingston Friday and Ottawa next Saturday. Their next home game is Thursday, Nov. 17 versus Saginaw.
