Storm sink Marauders in SOSSA AAA final
The A.N. Myer Marauders came up just short in their goal of qualifying for OFSAA.
The Marauders dropped a 42-33 decision to the Saltfeet Storm Thursday at home in the Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association senior girls AAA basketball final.
The Storm advance to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations championship for the first time.
“Our goal at the beginning was to make it there (to OFSAA),” Myer guard Jenna Sadler said. “We can take this as a learning experience and apply it for next year.”
Sadler, who plays at the club level for the St. Catharines Rebels, tipped her cap to the Storm.
“There’s nothing else we can do,” she said. “We tried out hardest and tried to make it to OFSAA. We worked really hard.
“It was a really good game and they’re a really good team.”
The Marauders trailed 23-18 and 33-21 after three quarters. They were only down five at 35-30 with three minutes to play.
“Their transition was really good,” Sadler added. “They were getting ahead three or four baskets from their transition.”
Myer coach Katie Harpur felt her charges weren’t hitting on all cylinders.
“We had a game play we executed at points but we didn’t hit all the things we worked on all year,” she said. “It’s frustrating and it’s disappointing but they outplayed us today unfortunately.”
Sadler paced Myer with 10 points while Mya Pierini added 8, Marielle Zapata 6, Carly Casciano 5, Maia Walker 3 and Sophia Kotsanis 1.
