Badgers edged by Lions
The Brock Badgers women’s basketball team fell to 4-3 in Ontario University Athletics regular season play Friday night with a 66-58 road loss to the York Lions.
The Lions built quarter leads of 25-11, 31-25 and 54-38 to record the victory and improve to 3-4 on the season. The Badgers were out-rebounded 34-17 in the game which did not help their cause.
Top performers for Brock in the loss were: Theresa Brown with 16 points; Olivia Fiorucci with 12 points; Oluwatito Akinnusi with nine points and four boards; Madalyn Weinert with six points and four rebounds; and, Noor Bazzi with five points.
Leading scorers for York were Lauren Golding (13), Kiara Leveridge (10), Cyanna King (10) and Avery Bathe-Minard (9).
Brock will close out the first half of the season with a couple of tough assignments. The Badgers will host Carleton (6-1) Friday at 6 p.m. and Ottawa (7-0) Sunday at 1 p.m.
In other weekend games: Guelph beat Algoma 78-46 with help from Alexis Wright (eight points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals) and Julia Colavecchia (three points and four rebounds); and, Guelph beat Algoma 87-33 with assistance from Wright (eight points and 10 rebounds), Colavecchia (seven points) and Hannah Bourdon (four points and four rebounds).
