IceDogs rally falls short

Ryan Kuwabara picked up his first point as head coach of the Niagara IceDogs Thursday.
The IceDogs rallied from a 2-0 deficit only to drop a 3-2 decision in a shootout to the Kingston Frontenacs before 3,366 fans at Meridian Centre.
The IceDogs, who had lost their first three games under Kuwabara, remain last overall in the Ontario Hockey League with a 6-15-3-1 mark for 16 points. They trail Oshawa by five points for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Kingston jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the game was seven minutes old on goals by Paul Ludwinski and Jackson Stewart.
Niagara began their comeback in the second period when Daniel Michaud netted his seventh goal of the season and then tied the game at 12:32 of the third when Rodwin Dionicio fired home his fourth of the season.
Niagara outshot the Frontenacs 13-9 in the final 20 minutes but couldn’t bury the winner.
Igor Zhigalov made 34 saves in goal for Kingston while Owen Flores kicked out 35 for the IceDogs.
Following a scoreless overtime period, Francesco Arcui scored the lone goal of the shootout.
Juan Copeland, Brenden Sirizzotti and Pano Fimas were all stopped in the shootout for Niagara.
The IceDogs are in Kitchener (12-13) Friday and home to Mississauga (13-10) Saturday.
Ice cubes: Ryan VanNetten, Andrew Wycisk and Evan Klein did not dress for the IceDogs . . . Maleek McGowan, Paul Hughes, Owen Outwater, Alessandro Petreccia, Vann Williamson, Nathan Poole and Alec Belanger were scratched for Kingston.
