The St. Catharines Falcons topped the Niagara Falls for the second time in less than 48 hours with a 4-1 victory in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Gale Centre Sunday afternoon.
“Always nice to take the four points on the weekend,” Falcons coach Tyler Bielby said.
St. Catharines grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Blake Yetman and Chris Reid before captain Jonah Boria extended the Falcons lead to 3-0 in the second period.
The Canucks got on the board when Kyle Caron scored just 11 seconds into the third before Yetman netted his second of the game with less than a minute to play. Yetman has 26 points in his last 10 games.
Aiden Berry, who defeated the Canucks 4-1 Friday in his Falcon debut, made 29 saves for the win.
“We are happy that we got back to keeping the puck out of the net, but had to lean on our goalie a little more than we would like today,” Bielby said. “Berry did a great job shutting the door, but thought the boys could have put together a better effort today. That being said, we will take the win and get back to practice and prepare for six games in nine nights.
“It’s important that we stay hungry each and every day.”
The Falcons, 28-4-2, are within one point of the Hamilton Kilty B’s for first place. The Falcons have played three fewer games. The two teams meet in Hamilton Thursday.
Avery Alves made 22 saves in a losing effort for the Falls.
Junior Canadians 5 Panthers 2
The Welland Junior Canadians rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Pelham Panthers at the Welland Arena.
Jack Ryan, Brady Afelski, Gabriel Chiarot, Kevin Gould and Will LePage scored for Welland.
Philip Caridi and Dawson Abrahams replied for the Panthers.
Ethan Labbe made 25 saves in goal for the win.
Logan Slou stopped all 14 shots sent his way in relief of Andrew Welch, who permitted five goals on 25 shots.

Meteors 5 Corvairs 1
The Fort Erie Meteors turned in a solid overall effort to defeat the visiting Caledonia Corvairs Saturday night at the Leisureplex.
“Was as complete a game as we have played in a while,” Fort Erie head coach/general manager Nik Passero said. “I thought we were really good Thursday in Hamilton and probably deserved better but we didn’t take our foot off the gas tonight.”
Kyle Adamo, Caleb Bidgood, Marcus Reginia, Gianni Koukouves and Josh DiFrancesco scored for the Mets.
“The line of Bidgood, (Doug) Doren and Koukouves were really good for us and they got rewarded for it,” Passero said. “Getting production from all four lines tonight and being 100 per cent on the penalty kill were huge for us and obviously Smitty (Josh Smith) making some key saves at key times.”
Smith made 27 saves for the win.
Travis House scored for the Corvairs, who were coming off big wins over St. Catharines and Hamilton last week.
