IceDogs drop seventh straight

The Niagara IceDogs fell behind early and we unable to recover as the dropped a 9-3 decision to the Owen Sound Attack in Ontario Hockey League action Wednesday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
The loss extends the IceDogs’ losing streak to seven games. They last won Jan. 26 versus Erie and have just one victory in 2023 in 18 games. Overall, Niagara is 9-32-6-1.
Coming off a lacklustre effort in a 6-0 loss at home to the Hamilton Bulldogs Tuesday, the IceDogs fell behind 4-0 in the first period. They trailed 5-0 early in the second before Andrew LeBlanc, who finished with two goals and an assist, finally got Niagara on the board at the 5:32 mark of the second. Owen Sound then added two more to Niagara’s one to lead 7-2 after two.
The IceDogs dressed just 10 forwards, including defenceman Landon Cato, who was listed as a forward but didn’t see a shift.
Alex Assadourian, who played Tuesday, joined Michael Podolioukh, Anthony Agostinelli and Gerard Keene on the sidelines. Assadourian’s injury isn’t considered serious and he could be back in the lineup this weekend.
Andrew Wycisk added Niagara’s other goal, his first of the season for the IceDogs.
Ethan Burroughs and Deni Goure paced Owen Sound with two goals each while Cedrick Guindon, Taos Jordan, Nolan Seed, Landen Hookey and Jackson Stewart added singles.
Josh Rosenzweig faced 52 shots in goal while Niagara generated just 22.
Things don’t get any easier for the IceDogs who visit the league leading Ottawa 67’s (35-9-2-2) Friday and the Kingston Frontenacs (23-22-1-2) Sunday afternoon.
Ice cubes: Niagara’s Declan Waddick was assessed a major penalty and ejected for cross checking late in the third period.
