The Niagara Juel girls basketball team improved to 3-2 in league action with a 49-37 victory over the Brampton Warriors last weekend.
“The team executed our game plan to a T. We came in knowing they only wanted to drive to the rim and not shoot from the perimeter so we took that away from them and they did not have an answer,” Niagara head coach Frank Keltos said. “We had some key buckets throughout the game but need to come more focused to play at a high level.”
Niagara built quarter leads of 10-2, 25-18 and 32-20 to record the victory in the defensive battle. Niagara shot 28.6 per cent from the floor while Brampton shot at a 21.3 per cent clip.
Top performers for the Niagara squad were: Brookelyn Keltos (Sir Winston Churchill) with 14 points and eight rebounds; Yemi Oladipo (Sir Winston Churchill) with 11 points and 12 rebounds; Jamie Addy (Governor Simcoe) with 10 points and five assists; Joanna Smith (Holy Trinity in Simcoe) with five points; and, Ava Stranges (Saint Paul) with four points.

The Niagara Juel Prep squad had a winless weekend, losing 85-58 to the North Toronto Huskies, 83-58 to the IEM Newmarket Spartans and 77-48 to the Etobicoke Thunder.
North Toronto build quarter leads of 15-4, 41-22 and 61-37 to record the win over Niagara. Leading the way for Niagara were: Keira Teske (Governor Simcoe) with 19 points and six rebounds; Rozlyn Ciocca (Saint Francis) with 17 points; and, and, Emma Venditelli (A.N. Myer) with 10 points and seven boards.
Against IEM, Niagara faced quarter deficits of 17-15, 43-30 and 60-50. Top performers for Niagara were: Venditelli with 17 points; Teske with 13 points and eight rebounds; Elyse Carmichael (Notre Dame) with seven points; and, Hannah Braye (Westlane) with six points.
In the loss to Etobicoke, Niagara trailed 14-5, 39-25 and 56-35 after each of the first three quarters. Topping the stat sheet for Niagara were: Venditelli, 14 points and seven rebounds; Maggie Mannell (A.N. Myer), 11 points; Teske, seven points and six boards; and, Riyanna Chahoud, six points and five rebounds.
