Colts trample IceDogs

It was another disappointing weekend for the Niagara IceDogs.
The IceDogs dropped a 9-4 decision to the Barrie Colts Sunday afternoon to sink to 11-38-7-1, last in the Ontario Hockey League.
Niagara began the weekend with a 5-2 loss to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds Thursday at home, followed up with another 5-2 loss Friday on home ice to the Sudbury Wolves.
The IceDogs are now 6-21 in 2023 with 11 games remaining in the regular season.
Barrie took a 1-0 lead after one Sunday, then exploded for seven goals in a wild second period that saw the IceDogs also score twice. The teams combined for five goals in a span of exactly one minute in the middle frame.
Roenick Jodoin paced Barrie with a pair of goals while Tai York, Ethan Cardwell, Brandt Clarke, Beau Akey, Jacob Frasca, Declan McDonnell and Beau Jelsma added singles.
Declan Waddick, Jacob LeBlanc, Alex Assadourian and Daniel Michaud replied for the IceDogs.
Josh Rosenzweig got the start in goal and permitted eight goals on 41 shots. Owen Flores finished up and gave up one goal on 11 shots.
Barrie pummelled Rosenzweig and Flores with 52 shots. Niagara fired 18 at Barrie netminders Sam Hillebrandt and Ben West.
Friday, Andrew LeBlanc and Waddick scored for the IceDogs who were outshot 55-45.
Flores played all 60 minutes and took the loss in goal.
The IceDogs are home to Peterborough Friday, in Sudbury Saturday and North Bay Sunday afternoon.
Ice cubes: Landon Cato (upper body), Gerard Keane (broken wrist), Anthony Agostinelli (concussion), David Jesus, Valdemar William Hull and Nathan Ribau did not dress for the IceDogs.
