Ten medals for Niagara athletes
Ten Niagara athletes brought home medals from the Athletics Ontario U16 and U20 Indoor Championships held last Saturday at the Toronto Track and Field Centre.
Bringing home gold medals were: Thorold Elite Track Club’s Ayla Laing in the under-16 Girls 1,500-metre racewalk; and, the Thorold Elite Track Club’s under-16 boys sprint medley team made up of Chase Larsen, Sean Lawson, Evan Blake and Chase Owen.
Bringing home silver medals were: Thorold Elite Track Club’s Chase Owen in the under-16 boys high jump; Thorold Elite Track Club’s Josee Regala in the under-16 girls 60-metre hurdles; Thorold Elite Track Club’s Kyjiah Slowley in the under-16 girls long jump and triple jump; Runners’ Edge’ Barron Walker in the under-16 boys 800 metres; and, the Thorold Elite Track Club’s under-16 sprint medley team made up of Layla Hall, Tola Adewumi, Faith Dyck and Ayla Laing.
Earning bronze medals were Thorold Elite Track Club’s Charlotte Ciceran in the under-16 girls weight throw; and, Thorold Elite Track Club’s under-20 men’s sprint medley team comprised of Braeden Brouwer, Jaden Dunlop, Tyler Doornbos and Fenway Breckels.
Deagen Hallett also set another provincial record for Thorold Elite in the under-14 boys 2,000 metres, running a time of 6:28.48 in the under-16 event in Toronto. The previous record of 6:43.15 was set back in 2014.
Next up is the final Athletics Ontario Indoor Championship for U8, U10, U12, and U14 athletes to be held March 25-26.
