Eden celebrates historic year
Eden’s Grade 12 athletes of the year Max Tywoniuk and Akira Grieve.
Eden celebrated a record year for its athletics program at the school’s recent awards banquet.
Ten of the school’s athletic programs qualified for Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations championships and 19 athletes have committed to play sports at the post secondary level.
Teams that went to OFSAA included: boys curling which placed top six; wrestling which brought home a gold, silver and bronze medal; track and field which sent seven athletes; cross country which send 10 athletes and brought back a silver; girls rugby which placed in the top 10 after making it to OFSAA for the first time; boys basketball which made it to triple A OFSAA for the first time and placed in the top eight; tennis which sent two athletes; swimming which sent 20 athletes; and boys volleyball which brought home a bronze medal.
Athletes moving on to the post secondary level included: Hannah Bennett who is going to Mohawk for volleyball; Jack Colantari who is going to Brock for swimming; Olivia Davidson who is going to Lee for track and field; Kaity Doyle who is going to Western for volleyball; Ingrid Esthuis who is going to Boston for rowing; Chelsea Guthrie who is going to Sheridan for soccer; Zubin Gatta who is going to Brock for wrestling; Josh Gelbert who is going to Guelph for rugby; Ella Hurrle who is going to D’Youville for soccer; Philip Kovac who is going to Brock for volleyball; Evie Leighton who is going to Canisius for swimming; Kaya Mclean who is going to Felician for volleyball; Ellie Rigby who is going to Laurier for curling; Leah Schouten who is going to Calvin for swimming; Caleb Stewart who is going to Dalhousie for basketball; Riley Stewart who is going to Dalhousie for basketball; Reese Vanderkooy who is going to Boise for volleyball; Emma Wylie who is going to Trent for rugby; and, Emma Esau who is going to McMaster for cross country.

Grade 10 athletes of the year: Mattea DiBacco and Graham Tomori.
Grade 11 athletes of the year: Madelaine Templeman and Luke Johnson.
Grade 12 athletes of the year: Akira Grieve and Max Tywoniuk.
Sport Management Award: Seth Weinert.
Athletic Council Service Award: Alex Vamvakaris.
OFSAA Leadership Award: Hannah Bennett and Griffin Dyck.
Eden Flyer Award: Chad Thorpe.
Eden Distinguished Service Award: Stephen Thompson.
