The top-seeded Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs built quarter leads of 18-5, 28-6 and 30-14 Tuesday on the way to a 42-20 victory over the Thorold Golden Eagles in first-round action at the Third Annual BPSN Girls Basketball Tournament.
Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Anya Namestnik (15), Kate Smyth (9), Norah Hoff (5), Kyra Pink (4), Mya Pupek (4), Morgan Barker (4) and Sydney Jones (2).
Replying for Thorold were Kaydence Hales (12), Ashley Mayhew (3), Tiana Hicks (2), Layla Gallant (2) and Portia Watts (1).
FLYERS 72 MUSTANGS 14
Shorleigh Burrows had 16 points, seven steals and four assists to lead the Eden Flyers to a 70-14 victory over the Saint Michael Mustangs in first-round play.
Also scoring for the Flyers were Ashlynn Caverly (10), Akira Grieve (8), Madelaine Templeman (8), Annika Rigby (8), Kate de Vries (6), Iye Ogunkeye (4), Morgan Lambert (4), Julia Kelcey (2), Kristina Grynevych (2) and Anna Harmsworth (2).
Scoring for Saint Michael were Mya Pasto (8), Ava Hodgson (2), Taya Paone (2) and Charlize Newport (2).
IRISH 53 COUGARS 33
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish held off the Centennial Cougars by 20.
Aleesah Adams had 15 to pace the winners while Nicole Dixon added 10. Ava Briggs (8), Lisa DiPietro (7), Abbey Grande (3) and Kyra DiGaetano (2) rounded out the scoring.
Emma Sauer had 12 to lead Centennial. Sarah Maguire (11); Victoria Kim (4); Nicki Goertz (1); Danica Colquhoun (1) also scored.

Keira Teske poured in 29 points as the Governor Simcoe Redcoats defeated the Denis Morris Reds.
