The Niagara IceDogs returned to action Thursday night following the Christmas Break and dropped a 10-2 decision to the Owen Sound Attack in an Ontario Hockey League game at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
The loss drops Niagara’s record to 8-20-4-1. They sit 20th and last overall in the OHL.
Niagara coach Ben Boudreau was understandably not happy with the effort.
“We went and played as individuals, not a hint of a resemblance of a team,” Boudreau said.
With a trade deadline of Jan. 10 looming, the IceDogs find themselves 11 points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference behind the Peterborough Petes and Oshawa Generals.
The Attack jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period before extending their lead to 4-0 after 40 minutes. Owen Sound then pumped in six more in the third period.
Owen Sound’s Deni Goure had a memorable night with three goals and five assists for eight points while Ethan Burroughs and Jake Crawford added two goals and two assists each. Sam Sedley, former IceDog Declan Waddick and Antonio Tersigni had one each.
Bronson Ride and Brody Crane replied for Niagara.
Owen Flores started in goal for the IceDogs and permitted four goals on 32 shots. Charlie Burns took over in the third and gave up six goals on 15 shots.
The IceDogs are back in action Saturday in Erie followed by a home game Sunday, Dec. 31 at 6 p.m. versus the Guelph Storm.
“We will expose those tendencies today (in practice) and work to fix them,” Boudreau added.
