Juel Prep winless in three
The Niagara Juel prep girls basketball team was winless in recent action, falling 59-57 to the London Ramblers, 101-50 to the Hamilton Yellow Jackets and 64-48 to York North.
Against the Ramblers, Niagara faced quarter deficits of 19-12, 34-25 and 44-41.
“The team fell to a 12-point deficit but they battled back in the second half. Ultimately we just couldn’t close the game out,” Niagara head coach Chris Moscato said.
Top performers for Niagara in the loss were: Maude Law (E.L. Crossley) with 19 points and 11 rebounds; Talia Hultink (Smithvillle Christian) with 13 points and seven rebounds; Camilla Moscato (Notre Dame) with 10 points and six boards; Ava Briggs (Notre Dame) with seven points; and, Kate Kolbinson (Port Colborne) with six points and seven boards.
Against the Yellow Jackets, Niagara was stung by quarter deficits of 25-7, 49-21 and 78-37.
“We played with a lot of energy and heart against a very strong team,” he said.
Top performers for Niagara in the loss were: Kolbinson with 10 points; Briggs with nine points; Addison Torigian (Sir Winston Churchill) with eight points; and, Jaylen Stienstra (Blessed Trinity) with five points.
In the game versus North York, Niagara led 12-10 after one quarter and 23-21 at the half before getting outscored 43-25 in the second half.
“The team played with a lot of energy and heart. The game was back and forth. We were cold from the foul line which ultimately was the difference in the game,” Chris Moscato said.
Topping the stat sheet for Niagara were: Camilla Moscato with 11 points and six rebounds; Law with 10 points and 11 boards; Kolbinson with seven points and eight rebounds; and, Hultink with seven points and eight rebounds.
