Perfect weekend for Niagara Juel Prep
The Niagara Juel Prep girls basketball team improved to 8-7 in league play with a pair of victories last weekend.
Niagara opened with a 64-56 victory over the London Ramblers and then defeated Windsor-St. Clair 65-57.
Against London, Niagara trailed 22-16 after one quarter but led 37-32 at the half and 49-43 going into the final quarter.
“The team found their rhythm early in the game and never looked back,” Niagara head coach Chris Moscato said. “Our defensive hustle paid off.”
Top performers for Niagara were: Maude Law (E. L. Crossley) with 18 points and six rebounds; Camilla Moscato (Notre Dame) with 17 points and 11 boards; Talia Hultink (Smithvillle Christian) with nine points and six steals; Ava Briggs (Notre Dame) and Addison Torigian (Sir Winston Churchill) with five points apiece; and, Lyla Rodrigue (Centennial) with four points and six rebounds.
Against Windsor-St. Clair, Niagara led 24-19 after one quarter and was tied 37-37 at the half before grabbing a 52-47 lead heading into the final quarter.
“The team executed plays well and worked together in every quarter,” Moscato said. “I’m really proud of the energy and resilience maintained throughout the game.”
Leading the way for Niagara were: Law with 17 points and seven rebounds; Hultink with 14 points, seven boards and four assists; Moscato with 13 points and seven rebounds; and, Kate Kolbinson (Port Colborne) with nine points.
