Gators, Cougars, Lynx, Raiders prevail in consolation round
Willy Kibowa netted 27 points to lead the Lakeshore Catholic Gators to a 78-68 victory over the Saint Michael Mustangs in the consolation quarter-finals of the 68th Annual Welland Tribune Basketball Tournament at Centennial Thursday.
Matthew Williams, who netted 27 points, was named his team’s Policella Homes Player of the Game while Hagen Generao received the award for Saint Michael.
Also scoring for the Gators were: Oliver Micah 10; Evan Winger 5; Simon Reid 4; Haden Hudak 3; and, Darren Williams 2. Four points were not accounted for on the game sheet.
Scoring points for the Mustangs were: Generao 17; Arwin Chima 15; Nathan Irwin 14; Nick Karagiannis 10; Ashton Nyadiwa 4; and, Austin McCrae 2. Six points were not accounted for on the game sheet.
COUGARS 48 CYCLONE 45
Nate Perna hit three straight threes down the stretch to lift the host Centennial Cougars to a 48-45 victory over the E.L. Crossley Cyclone in the consolation quarter-finals of the 68th Annual Welland Tribune Basketball Tournament Thursday
E.L. Crossley led 18-11 after one quarter, 24-15 at the half and 31-27 after three quarters before the Cougars tied the game up at 41-41 with 1:04 left in the game.
Perna was named the Policella Homes Player of the Game for his team and Jayden Thompson was named the recipient for E.L. Crossley.
Scoring for Centennial were: Nate Perna 28; Marco Reyes 11; Jaden Davis 4; Callum Brown 3; and, Kelsan Stayzer 2.
Replying for E.L. Crossley were: Graeme MacDonald 17; Jayden Thompson 8; Ryan Zucco 6; Caiden Golubic 5; Fazal Bhetasi 2; Nico Christopher 2; and, Cameron Dunn 1.
LYNX 51 GRYPHONS 42
Enzo Aka scored 15 points as the St-Jean-de-Brebeuf Lynx topped the Greater Fort Erie Secondary School Gryphons 51-42 in a consolation round quarter-final game Thursday at the 68th Annual Welland Tribune Basketball Tournament.
Princeley Toge of the Lynx and Harland Kelly of the Gryphons were named the Policella Homes Players of the Game.

Matteo D’Aria 22 netted 22 points as the Holy Cross Raiders edged the Port Colborne Blue Bears 60-51 in consolation quarter-final play.
