Wolves add veteran striker
Jared Agyemang figured if you can’t beat them, join them.
The 31-year-old Brampton native was on the field last September for Guelph United when they dropped a dramatic playoff game at Club Roma which saw the Wolves gain promotion to Premier Division of League1 in 2025.
Agyemang is joining the Wolves for the 2025 season and couldn’t be more pumped.
“It’s a little weird right now because I guess I’ve been on the other side of it so I’m excited to see how I’m going to feel walking out with the music, the smoke and everything,” he said. “I actually can’t wait for that moment.”
Agyemang has local ties, playing two seasons for the Brock Badgers after three years at the University of Guelph and has recently moved to Thorold.
“I think it’s been a little bit of back and forth over a few years. I knew a couple of players on the team and just things lined up this year as I moved to Thorold,” Agyemang said.
Roma general manager of soccer operations Mark Bolton said the Wolves have had their eye on Agyemang for some time.
“We’ve been talking to him about coming to Roma and we were looking for a striker,” Bolton said. “He was one of the ones that Federico (coach Federico Turriziani) really, really wanted.
“I’ve had good conversations with him over the last two weeks and he’s decided to make a move here.”
Bolton said it’s nice to have players want to play at Roma.
“The fact that players want to come and play at Roma is the biggest compliment we could have,” Bolton said.
Agyemang, who grew up playing youth soccer in his hometown, led his high school, the St. Edmund Campion Bears, on multiple trips to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) boys soccer championships, including back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012.
He is known for his ability to score, but Agyemang feels hard work is his trademark.
“To be honest, as a player I don’t actually see myself as talented I guess as other people may say. I just want to work hard, that’s how my results have come over the years.
“So I hope I can bring that to this team, which I already know that works hard. But just that little bit of edge that I can give, I hope, with goals.”
Bolton indicated the team has started informal workouts and that things will ramp up in early March when Turriziani returns from Italy.
