Thorold Elite leads way at indoor provincials
Members of the Thorold Elite Track Club had a strong showing this past weekend at the Athletics Ontario U18 and Open Championships at the Toronto Track and Field Centre.
Thorold Elite won the Indoor U18 provincial team title and led the way for Niagara with a number of individual and relay provincial medals.
Gold medals were won by: Amairah Gayle, Thorold Elite, in U18 girls high jump ; Mico Penich, Thorold Elite, in U18 boys triple jump; TJ Woods, Thorold Elite, in U18 boys 1500 metres; Thorold Elite’s U18 Girls 4×400-metre relay team (Sanaa Chesney, Adele Kushner, Aaliyah Henry and Maeva Scipio); Thorold Elite’s open men’s 4×400-metre relay (Tyler Doornbos, Eric Klein, Andrew Cheng and Jaden Dunlop); and, Thorold Elite’s U18 boys 4×800-metre relay (Andrew Bayne, Lucas Sacco, Barron Walker and TJ Woods).
Earning silver medals were: Amairah Gayle, Thorold Elite, U18 girls long jump; Adam Freure, Athletics Niagara, U18 boys pole vault; Thorold Elite’s U18 boys sprint medley (Jase Theodore, Muscab Mohamed, Alan Tirop and Evan Blake); Thorold Elite’s U18 Boys 4×400-metre relay (Evan Blake, Chase Larsen, Damien Bertrand and Alan Tirop); Thorold Elite’s open women’s 4×800-metre relay (Katelyn Perri, Sophia Perri, Violet MacDonald and Madison Eaton); and, Thorold Elite open men’s 4×800-metre relay (Andrew Cheng, Julian Cirasuolo, Jake Filipe O’Donnell and Keegan Clark).
Bringing home bronze medals were: Liam Mackay-Cotton, Thorold Elite, U18 boys weight throw; Maeva Scipio, Thorold Elite, U18 girls 60-metre hurdles; Graham Tomori, Edge Sport, open men’s 3000 metres; TJ Woods, Thorold elite U18 boys 800 metres; Thorold Elite’s U18 girls 4×200-metre relay (Tola Adewumi, Maeva Scipio, Meena Van Grieken and Amara Van Grieken); and, Thorold Elite’s U18 boys 4×200-metre relay (Alex Wurgler, Lemuel Sraku-Antwi, Chase Larsen and Jase Theodore).
Next up are the Athletics Ontario U16 and U20 Indoor Championships on March 1 and 2.
