All about the team

Noah DiEgidio is a coach’s dream.
The 19-year-old Notre Dame graduate is one of the most reliable players for the Niagara College Knights men’s soccer team.
The second-year electrical engineering technology student is not only a solid citizen, but he also contributes in a number of key areas.
“Noah sets a good example for the younger players and is respected by veterans on our team,” Knights head coach Frank DeChellis said. “He contributed a goal against Mohawk (last week) while also filling in at some new spots while the team works through injuries.”
For his efforts, DiEgidio was named the male athlete of the week, although wasn’t even aware he had been honoured until after it had been announced.
“I didn’t know about it until yesterday,” he laughed.
DiEgidio is playing a greater role on the team this season.
“I’m picking up a little more minutes this year,” he said. “I’m trying to be positive and do what Frank asks of me and be a role player. Wherever he needs me on the field, I’m going to be ready and prepared to play.”
DiEgidio normally plays on left wing but, with injuries, has also seen time in the middle.
“Sometimes mid-game when they have to make an adjustment, it can be difficult but I have to learn to adjust,” he said.
The Knights are off to a 6-1-1 start.
“It’s a lot of fun; the season is going very well,” he said. “I’m proud to be on this team.
“It’s always fun when you are winning.”
DiEgidio gave props to DeChellis and assistant coach Rino Berardi for the Knights’ strong showing.
“We would not be as far as we are without Frank and Rino,” he said.
He also singled out veterans Jordi Amores, Jake Therrien and Quinto Leone.
“Some of the third- and fourth-year guys are leading the team. Without all of them, we wouldn’t be doing as well as we are.”
