April 13 local sports: Panthers win D6 OBAs; NCAA badminton; JUEL basketball
The Pelham Panthers under-12 boys basketball team won a gold medal in Division 6 OBA Ontario Cup championships last weekend, beating the Kitchener Waterloo Vipers 49-46 in overtime in the championship game.
In pool play, the Panthers defeated Blessed Sacrament Hamilton 39-26, Sarnia Valhalla 36-26 and Caledon 43-37
Members of the team, coached by Frank Capretta and Andreas Gmoser and managed by Joanne Capretta, were Matthew Kleinsmith, Lucca Zanuttini, Nicholas Capretta, Anthony DiGioia, Alex Bray, Andrew Benko, Adam Ponting, Michael Ventresca, Luca Burattini, Michael Martel, Noah Gmoser and Andy Nawrocki.

JUEL BASKETBALL
THE Niagara JUEL basketball team sits in fifth place in league standings with a 10-6 record after defeating GTA West 58-43 and losing 93-55 to the unbeaten Scarborough Blues (16-0).
Leading the way for Niagara against GTA West were: Julia Colavecchia, 10 points and five assists; Tatyanna Burke, nine points and 11 rebounds; Elle Cooney, seven points and six boards; Mackenzie Schroeder, seven points; Viktoria Cubelic, five points and nine rebounds; and, Kaley DeMont, six points.
Niagara’s top performers versus Scarborough were: Cooney, 12 points; Cubelic, seven points and eight boards; Colavecchia, six points and five rebounds; DeMont, seven points; Beth Howlett, six points; and, Burke, four points and six rebounds.
