RANGERS SECOND AT HOOPDOME
The Niagara Rangers under-19 girls basketball team made it to the finals of a tournament at Hoopdome before dropping a 48-39 decision to Nepean.
Niagara trailed 17-2 early and was able to cut the lead to a single point before running out of gas in the second half.
On the way to the final, Niagara defeated Lakan 61-60, London 57-29, York North 46-40 and Brantford 40-33 in the semifinals.
Topping the stats sheet for Niagara (five or more in a category) were: Mackenzie Schroeder, 71 points, 21 rebounds, seven steals and six assists; Beth deBoer, 36 points, eight rebounds and 12 steals; Emily Bonisteel, 30 points and 17 rebounds; Emily Braun, 29 points and 13 rebounds; Maddie Caughill, 22 points and 13 rebounds; Maddie Coleman, 17 points and 28 rebounds; Rosie Tait, 16 points and 19 rebounds; Tess Puchalski, 10 points, 16 rebounds, 16 steals and six assists; Josee Severin, eight points and six rebounds; and, Logan Brown, four points, 21 rebounds, 11 steals and five assists.
PANTHERS 3-1 IN OBLC
The third-place Pelham Panthers under-15 boys went 3-1 in OBLX action last weekend, including a victory over the previously unbeaten Scarborough Blues.
Pelham defeated Waterloo 57-52 (T.J. Hurley, 14 points, Adam Kleinsmith, nine points); Scarborough 72-56 (Hurley 29 points, Kleinsmith, 8 points) and North Toronto 60-44 (Hurley, 16 points, Noah Minor 13 points). Pelham lost 61-53 to DC United (Hurley 15 points, Luke Klassen 12 points).
RED RAIDERS GOLDEN AT MUMBA
The Niagara Falls Red Raiders major bantam boys basketball team won gold last weekend at the MUMBA tournament in Newmarket.
In the finals, the Red Raiders recorded a convincing 57-24 victory over the MUMBA-Markham Elite squad.
In round-robin play, Niagara Falls defeated Huntsville 57-40, Ottawa South 60-20 and the York North Basketball Association 81-46.
Next for the squad are the OBA championships in two weeks.
