RED RAIDERS RANKED FIFTH
The Niagara Falls Red Raiders under-15 girls basketball team heads to the Basketball Ontario provincial championships this week in Scarborough ranked fifth in Ontario.
“It is truly going to be a tough battle for us with a few injuries and the round-robin draw that we have,” said head coach Mark Federinko, who is assisted by Sean Hutton and Andrea Wiggins. “However, our girls are tenacious and resilient so I am confident they will show up ready for the challenge.”
The team has an overall record of 25-9, including going 4-0 to win the MUMBA tournament and 5-0 to capture the HoopDome tournament. In Pool A of Ontario Basketball League action, the team went 8-4.
Members of the team are Jorja Allen, Kate Battell, Hannah Bourdon, Amye Buchan, Vanessa D’Abramo, Hanna Dino, Amy Edwards, Keira Federinko, Riley Hutton, Justine Veltman, Alexandra Watson and Victoria Wiggins.
SPARTANS EDGE GUELPH
Sam LeClair, fresh off an appearance for Canada in the Czech Republic at the 2019 European Box Lacrosse Invitational, scored four goals as the Spartans defeated the Guelph Regals 10-7 in Ontario Lacrosse Association junior B action Sunday at the Thorold Arena.
Blair Pachevera added a pair for the Spartans while Mitchell Geoffroy, Jacob McMillan, Connor Aquanno and Alex Gaston added singles.
Austin Paddy made 41 saves in net for the win.
The Spartans, 2-1, are in Hamilton Thursday, Windsor Saturday and Elora Sunday.
