Area sport: Synchro skating, Rebels basketball; bowling
Avery Clark and her Burlington Nexxice synchronized skating team have recently completed a highly successful season.
The Grade 10 student at Holy Cross and her team won bronze at the Leon Lurje Trophy 2018 in Gothenburg, took gold at the Ontario Regional Synchronized Skating Championships; earned silver at the Canadian National Synchronized Skating Championships and placed eighth at the ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.
Clark is now preparing for the upcoming season’s tryouts.
REBELS WIN POOL
The St Catharines Rebels under-14 major bantam girls girls basketball team won the Ontario Basketball League Pool A championship this past weekend with a 3-1 record.
The team also won the overall pool championship with a 5-1 record.
In weekend games, the Rebels: lost 44-37 to Brantford CYO (Brookelyn Keltos 8; Bianca Sestili 7; Jordan Wilton 7; Thea Lawson 6); defeated Toronto Triple Balance 58-40 (Keltos 17; Lawson 14; Wilton 10; Yemi Oladipo 4); dumped the London Ramblers 54-28 (Keltos 14; Sestili 10; Ella O’Connor 8; Oladipo 8); and, edged the Mississauga Monarchs 34-31 (Keltos 10; Wilton 6; Lawson 4; Oladipo 4)
Currently, the Rebels are the sixth-ranked team and will find out after Easter weekend where they finished up for season going into OBA championship April 13-15 in Brampton.
