Area sports: IceDogs deal Incze; Bowling results
The Niagara IceDogs have cleared up a logjam in goal, dealing Colton Incze to the Windsor Spitfires in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2022.
Incze is a former fifth-round selection (2015) of the IceDogs and has been with the team since the 2016-2017 season.
Niagara general manager Joey Burke feels this movement is best for Colton’s development and the IceDogs going forward.
“It’s always tough to move a guy like Colton, but at the end of the day this is the best fit for everybody. It gives him the opportunity to be a starter now that he’s earned. With the emergence of Christian Sbragalia, it allowed us to provide Colton this opportunity.”
Incze should get a chance to play in Windsor after the Spitfires dealt Michael DiPietro to Ottawa this week.
“I’m really excited to start in Windsor,” Incze said. “From my first few days here, everyone has been extremely friendly and have welcomed me in. The coaching staff are confident in me and my abilities and I have to keep working hard, developing and executing in games to earn their trust fully.”
Incze said he will miss playing for the IceDogs.
“It was very difficult leaving Niagara. I’ve been there for the past three years and have made lifelong memories with every guy in the room. Leaving my billets was also emotional, they took me in as a 16-year-old and treated me like their own son.
“I am forever grateful for my time in Niagara and I am looking forward to following their journey this season and in the future.”
