Brock men’s hoops seeks new coach
Brock’s men’s basketball team is in search of a new bench boss.
Interim head coach Madhav Trivedi has decided to leave Brock to “pursue an alternate opportunity” and head coach Charles Kissi, who took a one-year absence before the start of the 2018-19 season to serve as an assistant coach with Raptors 905, has chosen not to return to Brock.
“My time at Brock as the curator of the men’s basketball program will always be remembered fondly. The Niagara community embraced my family and for that we are grateful,” Kissi said.
Kissi, who in 2016 signed a three-year contract with Brock to become the manager of basketball operations, was the seventh head coach in the program’s history. He led Brock to an overall record of 107-72, including three consecutive playoff appearances and a berth in the nationals championships in 2017-18.
“I would like to thank Brock president Gervan Fearon for his leadership, VPA Brian Hutchings, who is the ultimate supporter of Brock athletics, and former athletic director, Rob Hilson, for taking a chance on me in 2013,” Kissi said. “I’ll never forget the alumni and members of the community, led by great people such as the Partridge family, for their ongoing and generous support of our program. I am excited about the next step and the new challenges ahead.”
Associate director of Brock Sports Emily Allan described it as a tough day saying goodbye to two talented coaches.
“Charles worked exceptionally hard throughout his five years here and built a fantastic men’s basketball program,” she said. “We can only hope to build off that winning foundation.”
Allan also lauded the efforts of Trivedi.
“When an important career door opened for Charles, Madhav stepped into the role and helped carry on that legacy left by Charles,” she said. “We’re grateful to both of them for their contributions to the program and Brock Sports as a whole. We wish them well in the next chapter of their careers.”
Trivedi led Brock to an18-9 record and reached the Ontario University Athletics’ Wilson Cup Final Four.
“It was an incredible experience being able to lead such a great group of players to a successful season. I will miss the team and the Brock University community,” said Trivedi. “I now have an enticing opportunity to help build a winning program at another institution and look forward to the next chapter. I am confident in the Brock men’s program that the winning culture will continue and will look back on my time here with great memories.”
