Canucks unload on Blackhawks
The Niagara Falls Canucks put an emphatic end to a season-high three game losing streak with a 7-0 win over the Thorold Blackhawks in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Conference action Thursday night at the Thorold Arena.
The win moves the Canucks, 29-11-2-2, into second place ahead of the St. Catharines Falcons by two points. The Falcons can move back into a tie for second with a win at home Friday night versus the Welland Junior Canadians.
The Canucks took a 2-0 lead after one period and extended their lead to 4-0 after 40 minutes.
Andrew Bruno and Carson Edwardson each had two goals and an assist for the Canucks while Jake Burke, Danial Singer and Brodie Thomas added singles.
Former Blackhawk Anthony Tremonte made 22 saves for the shutout.
Chase Grsic faced 47 shots in goal for Thorold.
The Blackhawks, 23-17-2-2, are in Hamilton Monday to take on the surging Kilty B’s before hosting Buffalo next Thursday.

The Kilty B’s made it six wins in a row with a convincing 7-1 win at home versus the Welland Junior Canadians.
Nolan Slachetka paced the winners with two goals while Ellis Rickwood added a goal and three assists.
Steven Laforme, Nick Giamou, Jacob McEachern and Jacob Macdonald rounded out the scoring for the Kilty B’s.
Jordan Guigui netted the lone Welland goal.
Matteo Drobac made 27 saves in goal for the win.
Josh Rosenzweig permitted two goals on 25 shots and took the loss. Brennan Papineau finished up and gave up five goals on 27 shots.
