Churchill Ultimate squad heading back to OFSAA
The Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs Ultimate Frisbee squad is heading back to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations Festival.
The Bulldogs, coached by Tammy Short and Frank Keltos, punched their ticket to OFSAA by going unbeaten at the Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association championships. Churchill defeated Dundas Valley 12-1, Westdale 10-0, Stamford 7-2, Thorold 7-2 in the quarter-finals, Westdale 7-2 in the semifinals and A.N. Myer 4-1 in the championship game.
The Bulldogs will head to the OFSAA Festival May 30 and 31 in Lakefield with an overall record of 28-1, including 13-0 in Zone and SOSSA play.
The squad boasts 10 returning players from the team that won OFSAA silver two years ago. The returning players were in Grade 9 and 10 at the time.
“We have developed a good culture and have 56 players on team,” Keltos said. “Our seniors have leaned to help our younger player learn and love the game.”
He is excited about what lies ahead at OFSAA.
“Our expectations at OFSAA is that we make it to the championship side of draw and compete for a medal.”
Keltos knows it won’t be easy.
“To be successful, we need to be athletic, play smart and defend.”
Members of the team are Erica Boles, Maila Bond, Sarah Chapman, Billy Condos, Jared Cook, Dawson Dermatas, Allegra Duncan, Nicholas Gilby, Mekhi Gondoza, David Greene, Samantha Greene, Jaden Hoff, Norah Hoff, Andrew Hurrle, Cole Lewis, James Lindsay, Ray Lindsay, Madden Miller, Sawyer Neufeld, Mya Pupek, Cameron Robillard, Ryan Robillard, Keira Scott, Shannen Short, Kate Smyth and Addison Torigian.
