Corvairs top Blackhawks/Area sport/bowling/World junior tickets on sale
The Caledonia Corvairs scored early and often en route to a 10-3 victory over the Thorold Blackhawks in a Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Conference game Thursday at Thorold Arena.
The Corvairs jumped out to a 5-1 lead after one period and extended their lead to 9-2 after two.
Former Blackhawk Cal Davis had two goals and three assists for the winners while Joshua DeFarais also scored twice. Singles came off the sticks of Isaac Taylor, Matt Weston, Bobby Harrison, Lane Owen, Andrew Burns and Sean O’Brien. O’Brien also added five assists.
James Guest, Bailey Stumpo and Brendan Charlton replied for Thorold.
Caledonia held a 49-18 edge in shots.
The Blackhawks, 9-12-2-2, visit the Junior Canadians for a rare Saturday night game in Welland.

Tickets for three World Junior Championship Pre-Tournament games at the Meridian Centre are now on sale.
Team Canada takes on U Sports Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. and again Thursday, Dec. 14 at 4 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 12, Team Canada will play Team Denmark at 2 p.m.

Golden Eagles open strong
The Thorold Golden Eagles senior boys basketball team started its regular season with a convincing 85-20 win over Laura Secord.
Leading the way for the Golden Eagles were: Elijah Patcheson with 15 points, Colton Spencer 13, Jake Stirtzinger with 12; and, Braydon Harrietha and Dylan Maltby with 11 each.
