Crossley, Raiders advance to consolation semifinals
The Holy Cross Raiders advanced to the consolation round semifinals with a hard fought 59-50 win over the Laura Secord Patriots in quarter-final action Tuesday night at the 60th Annual Standard High School Basketball Tournament.
“I think we start slow most of the time,” Holy Cross coach Austin Anderson said. “The last two games we played good teams, St. Francis and Eden, but we get off to a slow start and then play better in the third quarter. If we sustain that third-quarter energy in the rest of the games, we should be pretty competitive going forward.”
The Raiders, who were ranked 15th, now take on the 14th-ranked Smithville Storm Thursday.
“It’s good,” Anderson said. “It’s nice to think of the top end teams and we can try and be a consolation finalist in this tournament and The Tribune Tournament and hopefully make some noise on this side.”
Holy Cross last won a consolation title in 2003/04.
