Area sport: Falcons fall to Corvairs; DM basketball; Fairview bowling
Dillion Lamarche made 51 saves but it still wasn’t enough as the St. Catharines Falcons dropped a 5-2 decision to the Caledonia Corvairs Wednesday night in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Conference action at the Haldimand Centre.
It was the second straight win for the Corvairs over the Falcons. St. Catharines had won the first three matchups.
“I thought we had a solid start. We had about a four-minute lapse in the second period that ultimately we couldn’t overcome, but it wasn’t for lack of effort,” St. Catharines coach Dan Fitzgerald said.
Michael Davies gave St. Catharines a 1-0 lead with an early goal in the first period.
The Corvairs then took over in the second period with three quick goals by Owen Lane, Bobby Harrison and Mark Bzowey before the period was five minutes old. Matt Weston made it 4-1 later in the period before Davies scored with five minutes to play to narrow the deficit to 4-2.
Adam Craievich, into an empty net, scored the lone goal of the third period.
The win improves Caledonia’s record to 27-30-0-1.
The Falcons are now 21-7-1-2. They host the Thorold Blackhawks Friday.
