Falcons sweep away Regals
The St. Catharines Falcons got back on track Tuesday night in Buffalo.
After losing three of their past four games, the Falcons rebounded with a convincing 9-1 win over the Regals in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Conference action.
The victory improves the Falcons record to 10-3-0-1 and moves them back into second place, a point up on the Niagara Falls Canucks. The Falcons have a game in hand on Niagara Falls.
The Regals remain winless at 0-13.
“I thought we had a decent start and didn’t cash in on it, then took a big step backward in the second, but finished strong with some more engaged and determined play in the third,” Falcons coach Dan Fitzgerald said. “We’re going to look to build off that third period to have a strong couple days of practice before the weekend. We need to push ourselves further to play a more complete game, and as we figure that out, we’ll start to truly unlock our potential.”
Hayden Broomhead paced the Falcons with four goals while Dakota Miskolczi added a pair. Noah Perlic, Mitch Pellarin and Lucas Smilsky rounded out the scoring.
Christian Jarmusz netted the lone Buffalo goal.
Owen Savory made 22 saves in goal for the win.
The Falcons are home to Ancaster Friday at 7 p.m. and are in Pelham Sunday at 3 p.m.
